Les inscriptions du temple d’Opet ont été publiées il y a une cinquantaine d’année par C. de Wit sous la forme d’un relevé manuscrit des textes hiéroglyphiques accompagnés de schémas illustrant une partie du décor des parois, d’une sélection de photographies, d’une traduction partielle des textes et d’une présentation générale de la théologie du temple (C. de Wit, Les inscriptions du temple d’Opet, à Karnak, BiAeg 11-13, 1958-1968). Ce travail, d’une valeur remarquable pour son époque, s’est avéré fort utile au cours du dernier demi-siècle. Il a servi notamment de support à l’enregistrement des inscriptions du temple dans la base de données du projet Karnak (CFEETK-USR 3172). Cette tâche a été réalisée entre 2013 et 2016 par Anaïs Tillier, collaborateur scientifique au projet Karnak (Labex Archimede AI-ANR-11-LABX-0032-01), et Silke Caßor-Pfeiffer, doctorante de l’Université de Tübingen. Elle a consisté à produire une nouvelle transcription hiéroglyphique des textes, accompagnée de leur translittération, d’une bibliographie complète et des photographies anciennes et récentes pour chaque inscription. Ainsi, en procédant au collationnement de l’ensemble des inscriptions sur le monument, la lecture de nombreux passages a été améliorée ou corrigée.
Il s’agit maintenant de valoriser ce travail sous la forme d’une publication papier afin d’offrir une nouvelle édition complète des inscriptions du temple fournissant les supports d’étude correspondant aux techniques actuelles. Les orthophotographies en haute définition réalisée par le CFEETK en 2014-2015 permettront d’exécuter les fac-similés, tandis que la transcription hiéroglyphique typographiée et les informations bibliographiques seront importées depuis le projet Karnak. La translittération sera associée à une traduction commentée de l’ensemble des textes ainsi qu’aux index thématiques requis. Un volume supplémentaire présentera un recueil d’études portant sur les différents aspects du temple (décor, fonction des espaces, théologie, paléographie, architecture, etc.). Celles-ci seront rassemblées à l’occasion d’une table ronde réunissant les spécialistes ayant travaillé ou travaillant sur le temple.
Ce projet sera réalisé avec le soutien d’Emmanuel Laroze (UMR 8167), en charge de l’étude architecturale du temple, et avec la collaboration du professeur émérite Claude Traunecker (Université de Strasbourg – UMR 7044) et de Laurent Coulon (directeur d’études, École Pratique des Hautes Études – Sciences Religieuses), respectivement en charge de l’étude épigraphique des cryptes et des remplois. Aussi, en complétant l’étude architecturale et les fouilles archéologiques menées en 2006-2008 par Emmanuel Laroze et Guillaume Charloux (CFEETK-USR 3172), ce projet consacré au décor et aux inscriptions du temple d’Opet parachèvera le travail entrepris il y a cinquante ans par C. de Wit.

The inscriptions of the Opet temple
The inscriptions of the Opet temple were published fifty years ago by C. de Wit. The three volumes contained the hieroglyphic texts accompanied by drawings representing parts of the wall decoration, selected photographs, a partial translation of the texts and a general presentation of the temple’s theology (C. de Wit, Les inscriptions du temple d’Opet, à Karnak, BiAeg 11-13, 1958-1968). This remarkable work at its time proved to be beneficial for the last half century and especially as for the recording of the temple inscriptions for the database of the Karnak project (CFEETK-USR 3172). This work was conducted by Anaïs Tillier, scientific contributor of the Karnak project (Labex Archimede AI-ANR-11-LABX-0032-01), and Silke Caßor-Pfeiffer, Ph.D. student of the University of Tübingen and resulted in a new hieroglyphic transcription of the texts accompanied by a transliteration, a complete bibliography, and ancient and new photographs of each inscription. By comparing the whole ensemble of inscriptions on the monument the reading of numerous passages has been amended or corrected.
This work should now be valorized in form of a paper publication to present a new complete edition of the temple inscriptions giving the study tools matching the state of the art techniques. The orthophotographs on high definition taken by the CFEETK in 2014–2015 will allow to prepare facsimiles, while the already typed hieroglyphic inscriptions as well as the transliteration and the bibliographical information will be imported from the Karnak project database. The transliteration will be accompanied by a philologically annotated translation of the texts and indices. An additional volume will be dedicated to studies on different aspects of the temple like decoration, function of spaces, theology, palaeography, architecture etc. They are supposed to be gathered at a round table conference with specialists who have been or still are working on the Opet temple.
This project will be realized with the support of Emmanuel Laroze (UMR 8167), responsible of the architectural study of the temple, and in collaboration with Professor emeritus Claude Traunecker (Université de Strasbourg – UMR 7044) and Laurent Coulon (directeur d’études, École Pratique des Hautes Études – Sciences Religieuses), the former in charge of the epigraphic work on the crypts and the latter of the reused blocks. Furthermore, additional to the architectural and archaeological work conducted by Emmanuel Laroze and Guillaume Charloux (CFEETK-USR 3172) in 2006–2008, this project is dedicated to the decoration and inscriptions of the Opet temple and aims to complete the work of C. de Wit undertaken fifty years ago.
