Training workshop “Research and publication in Egyptology: a methodological introduction” by Ifao and CFEETK (Luxor Museum, 25 November 2024)

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Luxor Museum, the Ifao and CFEETK are pleased to organise a second training workshop “Research and publication in Egyptology: a methodological introduction“. It will take place in the conference hall of the Luxor Museum, on November 25th 2024, from 9 am to 1.30 pm.

This workshop is intended for people working for the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (inspectors, curators, etc.) in Upper Egypt who wish to continue their academic studies (master, PhD), and also to students of the same levels from faculties of Archaeology, of Tourism Guidance and of Restoration of Antiquities.

The lectures will be given in English, by a panel of Egyptian and French Egyptologists and specialists.

⁠يتشرف متحف الأقصر للفن المصري القديم بالتعاون مع فريق عمل المعهد الفرنسي للآثار الشرقية بالقاهرة و المركز المصري الفرنسي لدراسة معابد الكرنك  بدعوة سيادتكم  لحضور ورشة عمل تحت عنوان: “أدوات البحث و الكتابة الأكاديمية و النشر الدولي ” ، وذلك يوم الأحد الموافق ٢٠٢٤/١١/٢٥ من الساعة ٩ صباحاً حتى الساعة ٢ ظهراً

Topics and objectives:
  • Conducting scientific research: defining and delimiting a subject, finding sources and bibliographical references, etc.
  • Learning scientific tools: knowing the main tools available in libraries and online (with a focus about Karnak area).
  • Sharing your research: citing your sources without plagiarism, knowing the international scientific standards for publishing a paper.

Le workshop “Conducting Scientific Research in Egyptology: Tools and Methods” en images (Karnak, 17-19 septembre 2023)

Le CFEETK, avec la collaboration de l’Ifao et Central Training Unit du MoTA/SCA, a organisé pendant 3 jours (17-19 septembre 2023) un atelier de formation à la méthodologie et aux outils de l’égyptologie : « Conducting Scientific Research in Egyptology: Tools and Methods ».
Au cours de ce riche workshop, dix inspecteurs des gouvernorats de Louxor et de Qena ont ainsi pu suivre des présentations donnés par les docteurs Mathilde Prévost (Ifao), Ahmed M. Mekawy Ouda (Univ. Caire/Ifao) et Jérémy Hourdin (CNRS-CFEETK). Le troisième jour, ils ont égalemeent visité les différents chantiers du CFEETK au sein de Karnak, guidé par ses directeurs, les Drs. Ahmed Al-Taher et Luc Gabolde.
Le CFEETK remercie chaleureusement l’ensemble des participants de cette formation ainsi que ses intervenants.

Ten inspectors from the governorates of Luxor and Qena attended lectures given by Dr Mathilde Prévost (Ifao), Dr Ahmed M. Mekawy Ouda (Univ. Cairo/Ifao) and Dr Jérémy Hourdin (CNRS-CFEETK). On the third day, they visited the CFEETK’s various projects inside Karnak enclosure with the directors of the centre, Drs. Ahmed Al-Taher and Luc Gabolde.
The CFEETK thanks warmly all the participants of this workshop as well as its lecturers.

“Conducting Scientific Research in Egyptology: Tools and Methods”

Training workshop
17-19 September 2023 — Karnak, Luxor

The CFEETK, with the participation of the Ifao, will organise a training workshop on tools and methods used by Egyptologists from 17th to 19th September 2023. This workshop will take place at the library of the CFEETK in Karnak (Luxor).

It is intended for inspectors with a bachelor’s degree who wish to continue their academic studies (master or beginning of doctorate studies) in Egyptology.

The lectures will be given in English by a panel of Egyptian and French Egyptologists.

Programme:

— Learning scientific tools: presentation of the main encyclopaedias and tools available in libraries, digital tools and databases, etc. (with a focus about Karnak area).
— Conducting scientific research: defining and delimiting a subject, identifying sources, bibliographical research, etc.
— Sharing your research: giving an oral presentation, knowing the international scientific standards for publishing an article, etc.

The third day will be devoted to visiting the CFEETK archaeological projects within the Karnak precinct, with its two directors, and discovering the different stages of the scientific work.
