Conservation of the naos base of Amenemhat I at the Temple of Ptah
Conservators: Ornella Berges, Abdu Koraim, Mohammed Zaki, Zeineb Abd el Muahsen and Emeline Baude.
On February 3, 2010, in the presence of HE Farouk Hosni, Minister of Culture and HE Dr. Zahi Hawass, Secretary General of the SCA, a fragment of the naos base of Amenemhat I, earlier identified by the curators of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, was returned to Karnak. The conservation of this element became a priority within the conservation program currently underway at the temple of Ptah.

A full conservation treatment was carried out to integrate the fragment both structurally and visually and to preserve the rest of the naos base which was in a poor state of conservation. Mechanical cleaning by micro-sandblasting was first carried out prior to the consolidation, then the fragment has then reattached by pinning. Finally to give a more uniform appearance to entire base, retouches rendered in a pointillist technique were executed using lime water and pigments.
